Yes, you can wear makeup after getting permanent makeup, but you need to wait until the healing process is complete. Typically, this can take about a week or two.
The procedure typically takes about 2 to 3 hours. This includes time for the consultation, photos, brow mapping, outlining, then the actual microblading procedure.
You can expect some redness and slight swelling immediately after the procedure. During the first few days, your brows will appear darker and more intense, but they will lighten as they heal. Scabbing may occur, and it’s crucial not to peel, scratch, or pick at it. To see your full results in about 4-6 weeks.
Yes, we offer services suitable for all skin types. During the consultation, your artist will ask a series of questions to determine which service is best for you.
For eyelash extensions yes. If you have more sensitive skin / eyes than we suggest you come in for a patch test to ensure you get the best possible experience without getting an allergic reaction.
For permanent makeup, we have 6 techniques and all techniques are designed to be specific for each skin type. For example, Microblading works best on normal to dry skin types, Combination Brows, Powder Ombre (both regular & russian ombre) and our newest technique Nano Brows are great for all skin types. Powder Ombre will always last the longest.
Yes, permanent makeup can be removed if needed. Techniques like laser removal, glycolic acid, or saline removal are common, but it’s important to consult a professional to determine the best method for your specific situation. At Meraki, we offer both glycolic acid and laser tattoo removal services.
Depending on your skin type and how your skin has reacted to the procedure, your artist may suggest an adjusted care routine for your new brows. Typically, on the day of your procedure, avoid touching or washing your brows. On the second day, wash them with lukewarm water by splashing gently, pat them dry with a paper towel, and then apply the healing ointment if instructed by your artist. When washing the rest of your face, avoid the brow area and be gentle. When cleansing your forehead, do your best to prevent any soap or products from coming into contact with your brows.
Yes, if you have questions, you can contact us via email or phone, or reach out directly to one of our artists on their social media. We also offer a consultation and mapping service for $150 for those who are not completely sure about booking. If the client decides to book after the consultation and mapping service, that $150 will be applied toward their service.
Cleanliness and hygiene are our top priorities. At Meraki, we follow strict disinfection and sterilization procedures before and after each treatment. We use disposable items for every procedure and maintain a clean environment.

A lash lift gives the effect of using a curler on your natural lashes except it lasts 6-8 weeks. Eyelash extensions are synthetic fibers being placed on your natural lashes giving you a more dramatic/falsie type look.
Yes, we offer patch tests as well.
Sensitive/Hypo Allergenic glue is an alternative for ladies who are allergic to the regular glue. Please email info@merakibrowbar.com if you would like the full list of ingredients in our glues.
Aftercare for lash extensions: no picking or pulling, avoid hot steams or showers without 24-48 hours, avoiding sleeping on your face, no oil based makeup or removers near the eyes as the oil can break down the glue. Wash them once in the morning and once at night to ensure cleanliness of the extensions and avoid buildup. The best way to care for a lash lift is to not get them wet for 24 hours. No hot steams or showers , avoid sleeping on your face or side as the product is still setting in and may cause movement of the lash lift. After 24 hours you are free to do as you please. Caster oil, or coconut oil can be used on the lashes to nourish the lashes once treatment is finished as it can be drying.
Between 2.5 to 3 weeks. Must have 40-50% lashes for it to be considered a new fill. Anything less than that, the extensions will be considered a FULL SET.
No, because with proper application and care, your lashes will regenerate themselves. Seeing your natural lash shed with the extension is completely normal; naturally you lose about 1-5 lashes a day with or without extensions. The only way for your natural lashes to be damaged is if they were applied improperly or with improper aftercare.
If your extensions are shedding quickly, please contact your Lash Artist right away and double check your aftercare. How your extensions last is 20% application by the Lash Artist and 80% how you take care of them. Please visit question 12 for aftercare if you are unsure.
This will be determined through your eyelash artist as we would not want to compromise the integrity of your natural lash. However, please keep your expectations realistic as we can only work with what you give us!
Minimal makeup as always best with lash extensions. Make sure your makeup is the liquid kind, oil free, and non-waterproof. We wouldn’t recommend mascara as removing will most likely take off most of your extensions.
The aftercare is as follows:
● First 24 hours no water steam or moisture
● Do not spray your lashes directly with the shower head
● Oil free products (makeup, makeup remover, skin care) around the eyes only
● Sleep on your back (side/face sleeping will cause your extensions to shed either on one side or faster altogether)
● No picking or pulling at your natural lashes
● Wash your lashes daily/every other day. You can do this with our Meraki Luxurious Lash Cleansing Foam or baby shampoo and a small brush going in circular motions around your lash line.
When applied and taken care of properly, normally no break is needed for lash extensions due to the shorter hair growth cycle. However, if our Lash Artist do notice any changes in lash growth and would recommend a break, they will definitely let you know!
The best way to maintain your lash extensions is to avoid oil based makeup, eyeshadows, or mascara around the extensions. Oil based products will break down the glue. Touching the extensions may cause early fall out as well as we can have oil transfers from our fingertips. Do not pick or pull.
Our beauty treatments are usually suitable for all skin types. Those who are on the oilier side may experience quicker fall out for extensions and may need to come in sooner than 3 weeks.
Please come in with no eye makeup or curled lashes. If you have any pictures you like, also bring those with you to help guide your consultation with your Lash Artist.
A keratin lash lift is a very gentle, mild perm that uses chemical solutions to lift and curl your lashes. This procedure helps enhance your natural lashes so that you can see the full length of the lash, giving the appearance of longer, fuller looking lashes. It also can make your eyes appear bigger and brighter, and is a great alternative for clients who aren’t quite ready to commit to lash extensions, or want something more low maintenance and/or more natural.
● Please come in without any makeup or mascara on your natural lashes.
● You must not have any leftover lash extensions
● Bring a blanket or headphones for a more comfortable experience
Lash lifts typically last anywhere between 6-8 weeks, but it can vary from person to person depending on their natural hair growth cycle. We recommend coming back for another lash lift after 6 weeks.
No, a keratin lash lift is one of the newest and improved procedures. Though the chemicals are similar, it is now designed specifically for lashes, therefore is a lot gentler and infused with keratin to keep the lashes healthier as opposed to the older methods that used heat and perm rollers which could be quite harsh.
No, a lash lift is totally painless.
Yes, the lash lift procedure is completely safe as the chemicals we use are placed on a specially designed silicone shield that is placed on your eyelid and do not go anywhere near the eyes.
Lash lifts are typically safe for sensitive eyes. As the product used to create the lifting effect is placed on a shield that sits on top of the eyelid allowing a separation between the product and the eye itself. A patch test is still recommended.
No, our lash lift artists are skilled professionals and carefully trained to ensure proper procedures are being followed.
Unlike lash extensions, a lash lift can last anywhere from 6-8 weeks and there is no need for maintenance, therefore it is a personal preference. You can either let it grow out completely, or some prefer to lift again when some natural lashes grow out. To maintain the lash health however, it is recommended to wait a minimum of 4 weeks from initial procedure before getting a lash lift again.
Lash lifts are very low maintenance which is why many people love this service. 24 hours after the procedure avoid any moisture and must avoid steam. Simply nourish them nightly with coconut or castor oil using a mascara wand provided with your service.
Yes, you can use any kind of makeup and makeup remover including mascara, however do NOT use waterproof mascara as it can dry out your lashes and the removal of them can be too harsh and weaken the lift.
No, with a lash lift there is no need to curl them, and more importantly using it can weaken and damage your lashes.
To come prepared to your lash lift appointment, arrive with absolutely no makeup, especially no water proof mascara, as sometimes it could be hard to break down and cause the product to not work as well.

It all comes down to how dark and thin your brows are at the moment. Depending on the method you would like (microblading, powder ombre, combination, or nano), it may or may not work. Please always send a photo of your bare brows, preferably facing a window with natural lighting, to info@merakibeautybar.ca for approval before booking an appointment.
Yes, we are fully licensed. This includes my Permanent Cosmetics Technician license, Burnaby Health Inspection License, and the City of Burnaby Business license. All licenses are passed.
In the past, pigments that were used on the facial area such as the eyebrows were from the same pigments that were used on the body. Black ink was the main choice of pigment and as black is not an actual color (it is made of many colors), your body will slowly absorb the low-volume colors and can leave your brows with one shade (blue/green). Sun exposure can also turn this black pigment into a blue/green color as you are unable to block your face at all times (unlike your leg or arms with clothes). With the combination of black & body pigments, sun exposure, it may change the hue.
Here at Meraki Beauty Bar, all pigments used are organic inks and stay true to its color. We use Permablend Pigments which are high quality products and have been tested numerous times. Once the permanent cosmetic fades, it will fade to a lighter shade of the desired color.
No black pigments are used. Different shades of brown are chosen to match your skin undertone and hair color. Black pigments are generally used for body tattoos.
Depending on the method you are choosing, the inks are made of a mix of organic and inorganic inks.
Consultation is generally on the same day as the procedure. 1 hour of consultation and brow perfecting and 1 hour of the initial procedure. It will be a total of 2-3 hours for the entire appointment depending on your desired shape, thickness, and artist.
Your one free touch up appointment should be booked immediately after your initial appointment. The booking should be at the 6 to 8 week mark from the initial appointment. If you book before then, please be advised there may be a higher chance that your brows will still be healing and will still be very sensitive. As a result, it may be more painful. It is your job to book the touch up appointment as many people cancel, reschedule, and your artist may be fully booked. Your free touch up will only have a period of 3 months from the initial appointment. If you surpass your 3-month time, your touch up cost will automatically be $100. Additional touch ups will be at a certain cost depending on the time from the initial appointment.
Healing time consists of 7-10 days but this solely depends on your body and its’ healing. There are some who heal in 4 days, but some in 3 weeks. Please try to schedule your events accordingly.
Please see Healing & Aftercare section on the Brows Page.
Depending on your body, skin type, and lifestyle, your permanent makeup can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Oilier skin types generally fade quicker than drier skin types. This also depends on the type of method chosen. It is common for Microblading clients to come in more frequently (1-1.5 years) while Powder Ombré clients come back infrequently (anywhere from 1-4 years).
After the initial touch up there are many factors as to why your brows may not last long. This includes not following aftercare instructions, lots of sun exposure (not wearing sunscreen), your lifestyle (ie you spend most of your time outdoors), skin type (dry, flakey skin), being iron deficient/anemic, using chemical peels/exfoliants frequently on the area etc.
We are able to touch up another artist’s work however, it will be at full price as the original brow was not done by us at Meraki and may be even more difficult to correct.
It is NOT recommended to workout, sweat, go swimming, hot yoga, sauna, or anything that can cause your skin to sweat and/ or become oily. This is to be avoided until your eyebrows are fully peeled. If any of this is done, it can cause your scabs to peel earlier and can even lose pigment. This is very important for Microblading in particular as the excessive oil can cause the strokes to heal blurry.
Your one free touch up appointment should be booked immediately after your initial appointment. The booking should be at the 6-week mark from the initial appointment. If you book before then, please be advised there may be a higher chance that your brows will still be healing and will still be very sensitive. As a result, it may be more painful. It is your responsibility to book the touch up appointment as many people cancel & reschedule. There is a 3 month time span for your free touch up from the initial appointment. If you surpass your 3 month time span, your touch up cost will automatically be $105. Additional touch ups will be at a certain cost depending on the time from the initial appointment (please see touch up tier for breakdown).
If you are from out of town, we allow a 6-month period for you to receive your free touch up. Please email info@merakibeautybar.ca and note when your initial appointment date was and list dates that you will be in Vancouver, BC so that we can book you accordingly.

Every client has their own customized formula.
During the consultation I assess the natural undertones of the lip before discussing preferred colour choices. Depending on your complexion and keeping in mind the client's preferred colours choices, I suggest options before customizing mixes to best suit your skin tone and lip tone. The lip blush technique is meant for soft results. I do not over-line or tattoo strong colours.
I will not tattoo cool colours on any lips that have hyperpigmentation including even after colour correction is done. Cool colours will make hyperpigmented areas darker especially as time goes on.
This relies heavily on client after-care and lifestyle factors. On average it lasts 1-2 years before significant fading in the middle of the lips.
It is perfect for those who want a more defined, even and natural colour to their lips. Most hyperpigmentation (dark areas) can be colour corrected and transformed for a lighter and brighter look. Please see below for more information on colour correction.
Anyone with previous lip tattoos must email a clear photo of their bare lips in natural/bright light at: info@merakibeautybar.com before booking an appointment.
● Mild swelling, bruising, itchiness, tightness and thin scabbing.
● Dark and slightly uneven appearance during healing. The tattoo
will darken for the next 2 days after the procedure and then
lighten after scabbing.
● Colour change or colour fading until Week 6 then the colour will then normalize. Keep in mind adjustments will be made during the touch-up appointment which is around 2 months after.
● Its very important to have the first touch up 6-8 weeks after the
first session, then every 1-2 years to keep your tattoos looking
fresh and beautiful!. An email or in-person photo consultation may be necessary to determine if you need a touch up or a repeat of the entire procedure depending on how long it’s been.
If there are any questions or concerns, please contact Meraki or your Lip Blush Artist.

After your consultation or viewing images of your scalp and evaluating your unique situation, we’ll be able to suggest a length your hair should be cut before the procedure. However as a general rule I will usually shave the hair to a 0.5mm hair length. And I will also suggest that you keep your hair to this length for the best aesthetic.
Yes it does. We have pigment to match any hair follicle.
The honest answer is that SMP can be mildly uncomfortable, some describe it as painful while others report that the pain level is not that bad at all.
For this reason, it is impossible to predict how much discomfort a particular individual will experience during the procedure, as pain tolerances are subjective.
* We offer numbing cream with lidocaine for those who are concerned about the pain.
The duration of permanent or semi-permanent depends on the pigment used and the depth of needle penetration during the procedure. Skin type and after-care are also determining factors in achieving lasting results.
During your consultation we’ll discuss all of the details and options that are best for you. Clients should follow aftercare instructions carefully for best results.
The cost usually runs between CAD $1,000-$3,600 depending on the amount of balding, thinning, scarring… etc. For example, a small scar might cost $1,000 to conceal while a client experiencing complete hair loss will incur costs towards $4,000.
It’s easy to get a quote by emailing us a picture of your scalp, however we do prefer meeting you in person and doing a consultation. In person consultations are far more personal and we can also show you our facility and get to know you a little better.
*We do offer financing for those on a limited budget.
There are several reasons why SMP is done over two or three sessions. And this again also depends on the procedure being done, the first reason is that the process of
SMP creates tiny micro wounds in the skin; the skin is essentially being punctured when each dot is applied, therefore a scab heals over the wound which eventually falls
away often taking some of the implanted pigment with it.
The scalp will take approximately 7-10 days to fully heal.
Typically 2-4 hours for each session. A final touch up session after your complete SMP may or may not be required.
That will be determined after complete healing has taken place.
Scalp MicroPigmentation or SMP as it is commonly known is not a regular tattoo but a highly specialized process by which tiny deposits of pigment are positioned within the dermal layer of the skin to replicate hair follicles.
When applied by a skilled practitioner, these deposits mimic the look of real shaven hair or will add the appearance of density to longer hair.
While it is possible to do two procedures within the same week, we recommend waiting 7-10 days to fully heal before doing your next session.
We use single needles made from Japanese Surgical Grade 316L Stainless Steel. Our needles make impressions the size of a small pin.
With the naked eye, it’s impossible to differentiate between a follicle made with our needles and an actual hair follicle.
The needles we use are the smallest on the market.
No, there is absolutely no risk of the colour turning blue or green. We use a Carbon based pigment, which contains no blue or green undertones. As with all permanent makeup, fading will occur over time as your skin ages.
The longevity of your SMP depends on a few variables, some are within your control, such as adhering to SMP aftercare and long-term care, and some are out of your control such as immune response and skin chemistry. On average your SMP should last between 3-5 years before a touch up is required. However there are always exceptions to this rule, some might need a touch up after two years, some might need a touch up annually and then there are some whose SMP still looks great after 5 years.
Yes it does. We have pigment to match any hair follicle.

Candela’s PicoWay picosecond laser technology machine.
Laser Tattoo Removal is a form of removal where a strong pulse of energy is applied to the tattoo to enable photochemical impact to shatter the ink into small particles. These small particles will then be broken down by the body’s lymphatic system. This specific method is particularly effective for deeper pigments such as body tattoo ink. We are proud to be using Candela’s PicoWay Laser system. The PicoWay uses picosecond technology to deliver ultra-short bursts of energy to the skin in trillionths of a second to enable pressure waves. The photomechanical impact shatters and targets without injury to the surrounding skin & hair follicles.
Picosecond laser technology uses ultra short bursts of energy(pressure wave) to the skin, enabling photomechanical impact to shatter targets(pigment) without injuring the surrounding tissue and hair follicles.
No, with picosecond laser technology it does not reach your hair follicles to kill its growth. Immediately after your laser tattoo removal session, you may see the hair in the treatment area turn lighter however the hair color will revert to its natural tone during the laser tattoo removal recovery time.
If you have had laser hair removal, the sensation is very similar. The feeling is often described as snapping a rubber band on your skin. Personally, the sound of the “zap” often startles me more than the actual procedure itself.
Yes, we offer lidocaine cream at an additional cost. For PMU brows and freckles the cost is $15 per session. For body tattoo removal, depending on the size you may need to purchase an entire tube at the price of $45. Also, for body tattoo removal, you may need to pick up the numbing cream prior to your appointment date and you will need to apply the cream 30 minutes before your appointment time and cover up with plastic wrap to your appointment.
You can resume your daily activities after the treatment. A minimum of eight weeks is required between treatment sessions. Please be advised the time between each session is really crucial as your body uses this time to break down the pigment and flush out of your system through your lymphatic system.

If you are removing a tattoo/PMU to proceed with a cover up piece or a new PMU session, less sessions are required compared to a full removal back to a blank canvas.

Unlike traditional laser removal, PhiRemoval can remove any colour. The tissue will heal quickly and it does not leave long lasting post treatment effects such as redness or damage to the tissue of your skin.
As this treatment enables the preservation of healthy skin, PhiRemoval solutions will continue to provide skin regeneration and skin renewal post-treatment to gradually accelerate the renewal of skin cells. It slightly improves and smoothes the texture of your skin while reducing the appearance of scars and imperfections. It also regenerates scars and provides improvement in the structure of skin and hair growth in the eyebrow area.
Emergency removal is removal treatment done within 24 hours of PMU or body tattoo. This provides the most effective outcome as pigment is still in the process of saturating into deeper layers of your skin.
With EnzymePower(Bacillus Ferment) removal solution, it works as an enzymatic peel which helps speed up the skin’s metabolism. It removes dirt and moisturizes the skin making it soft, smooth and gentle. During this stage, it will destroy the pigment therefore, after several sessions, the tattoo will slowly but surely disappear.
With the Light S(Glycolic Acid) removal solution, it works like a chemical peel. When the solution is in contact with the original tattoo ink, it will immediately push the pigment upwards through the skin. As the removal treatment heals, the pigment will continue to lift from under the skin and remove through the scab. After several sessions it will, too, slowly disappear.
Whereas, laser tattoo removal works by blasting the ink filled molecules to smaller pieces so your lymphatic system will drain them, like tiny pieces of waste in your body. Some tattoos will only fade instead of disappearing from laser removal. One main downside to laser tattoo removal is that some people will form blister bubbles during the healing process, leaving the area very tender. This may cause hypopigmentation once it heals.
Saline Removal works by driving the saline (salt & water) into your skin to try and push the pigment from under and cleanse your skin. Over several sessions, it is hoped that the tattoo will fade, but it does not guarantee the disappearance of the ink pigmentation.
The maximum down time is six weeks . Within this time there are some treatments that are safe to be performed depending on the treatment. Please speak to your removal artist in regards to what treatments are deemed safe during down time.
A minimum of four weeks' time is required in between sessions to allow the skin to heal internally.
Visible changes may occur once your third session has healed. However, you should see minor changes after the first session has healed. Total sessions will vary as it depends on the technique and ink used on your original tattoo. Your skin type also plays a huge role in the removal process.
Numbing is provided for all removal treatments. Additional numbing during the session is also available. For those who wish to proceed without numbing, it is said by clients that it is less painful than tattoo procedures.
In all removal treatments we begin with numbing. Once numbing is complete, we will cover the treatment area with the removal solution. Using the microblading tool or rotary PMU machine, we will deposit the removal solution into your skin. Depending on your skin type, this step will be repeated at a minimum of two times. Processing time is required each time the solution is deposited into your skin.
Yes, as long as your laser removal treatment has fully healed at a minimum of six weeks from the last treatment date.
Yes, if you wish to go back to laser removal or proceed with laser removal after you’ve had PhiRemoval, you can proceed after six weeks from the last PhiRemoval treatment.

Take a photo of all your skincare products you currently use at home, so that your esthetician can understand your daily routine. After your consultation and skin analysis, we can discuss a treatment plan, and make product recommendations suitable for your lifestyle. Be ready to learn more about your skin!
Of course. Do please inform us so that we can make product adjustments and ensure your comfort and safety. We will typically avoid products that contain Salicylic Acid, Retinols, Benzoyl Peroxide and essential oils. Tools such as the Ultrasonic Skin Scrubber tool would be avoided as well.
**Services such as Microneedling and Chemical Peels are not recommended for those who are pregnant and breastfeeding.
Yes you can. After a long day at work, let us help you thoroughly cleanse with the double cleansing method to remove all makeup, dirt, oil and debris.
Yes. We will avoid creams and oils around the eye lashes.
We recommend facials before lashes and permanent makeup services. Please let your esthetician know your plan so that we can avoid using AHAs on the brow area.
We recommend coming for a facial 2 weeks after your tattoo appointment.
We recommend coming in 5-7 days before leading up to your event. Depending on the service, this will give your skin some time to calm down and heal before the event.
We all love that glow after your facial, and with the right steps at home you can extend that glow.
Maintain a consistent home routine: Cleanse, hydrating serum, moisturize and SPF
Avoid strong exfoliants such as AHAs/BHAs and retinols for 5 days post facial. Using them too soon can cause more irritation to the skin.
Protect your skin barrier at all times with a suitable moisturizer for your skin type, and an SPF to protect your fresh face from damaging UVA/UVB/UVC rays.
Waxing, unlike shaving, removes hair directly from the root, leaving the skin smooth for weeks. Regular, consistent waxing will weaken the hair follicles, resulting in slower regrowth that is often softer and more fine.
There can be a level of discomfort during a wax, especially if it’s your first time. But don’t fear, we do everything in our power to make your experience more comfortable, including a pre wax numbing serum, super sensitive waxes, and highly skilled estheticians.
For best results, hair should be at least 1/4" long (3 weeks since last wax or 4 weeks since last shave). Hair that’s too short may cause breakage, leaving you with unwanted stubble.
We recommend waxing every 5-6 weeks. Hair grows in different cycles, so it’s best to allow enough time for the hair to fully grow out before waxing again. This will ultimately lead to smoother results, for longer.
We don’t recommend trimming before a wax. Trimming may result in the hair being too short. It also encourages more hair growth, the opposite of what we want!
The recommended time to wax before any big event (ie. wedding, anniversary, vacation) is 2-3 days. This will allow any redness or irritation to pass.
However, if this is your first time waxing, we strongly recommend completing at least 1 full waxing cycle to assess skin sensitivity, hair type and possible skin reactions. We would hate to see you head to your big day with irritated skin.
We don’t recommend waxing on skin that has been exposed to heat and/or sun for at least 24 hours. We don’t want to add any irritation to already irritated skin (especially sunburnt skin!).
It’s best to avoid friction and/or excessive sweat immediately after waxing as it may cause irritation and adverse reactions to your freshly waxed pores.
Yes, it’s totally fine to wax during your period. We just ask that you put a fresh tampon in before you arrive. We have fresh wipes and tampons available. When you’re comfortable, we are too.
To ensure uniform pricing, we base our charges on service area rather than the thickness of hair or body size.
Yes! However, it’s always best to consult your doctor before you book.
You should never wax if you are on acne medication such as Accutane or any other skin thinning or blood thinning medications. Waxing while on these medications can cause the skin to lift. Steer clear of waxing any area with varicose veins, sunburn, an STI or contagious skin infection. If you have undergone cosmetic treatments such as chemical peels, you may have to wait up to 6 months before it is safe to wax.
If you are under 16, we will require you to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to your first appointment to fill out a New Client Form.
