Sterilization:

Meraki Beauty Bar is fully licensed and insured. This includes Permanent Cosmetics Technician license, Eyelash Extensions License, Nail Technician License, Tattoo Removal License, Burnaby Health Inspection License, and the City of Burnaby Business License.  All licenses are passed.

The highest level of sanitation standards must be used when it comes to permanent cosmetics, eyelash extensions, and nails.  This is important especially when open skin is involved for permanent cosmetics.

● Cavicide and PreEmpt CS20 are used to disinfect working area, procedure chair, and counter tops.

● All tools, needles, utensils are all brand new and disposed of after each client.

● Each disposable needle is opened in front of you.

● A paper bed lining is used and disposed of after each client

Appointment Preparation

● Must not use Retin-A or any chemical exfoliants on/near the tattooed area before/after procedure (at least 1 week)

● Do NOT work out the day of your appointment

● Do NOT take any blood thinning medications (Aspirin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Ginger tea) 72 hours or immediately after your procedure

● Do NOT drink alcohol the night 72 hours prior to procedure (will cause excessive bleeding and sensitivity)

● Try to avoid caffeine the day of the procedure

● Make vacation plans accordingly (after procedure you will need to avoid pools, salt water and sun exposure for at least 7-10 days)

● If you are on your period, please take 2 regular strength Tylenols 30 minutes before your appointment to avoid extra sensitivity and pain.

Consultation:

Consultation is preferably the same day as procedure. 1 hour of consultation and brow perfecting followed by 1 hour of the actual procedure. For a total of 2-2.5 hours for the entire appointment depending on your desired shape and thickness.

Touch ups:

Your one free touch up appointment should be booked at the 6 to 8 week mark from the initial appointment. If you book before then, please be advised there may be a higher chance that your brows are still healing and will still be very sensitive. As a result, it may be more painful.

It is your responsibility to book the touch up appointment depending on availability as many people cancel, reschedule, or artist is fully booked.  Should you schedule a touch up appointment, not show up, or late more than 15 minutes, you will be charged the full appointment amount.  Additional touch ups after the complimentary one will be at a portion of the first cost.

After the initial complimentary touch up there are many factors as to why your permanent makeup may not last. This includes not following aftercare instructions, excessive sun exposure without wearing sunscreen, skin types that tend to be dry or flakey (eczema), using chemical peels and exfoliants frequently on the area etc.

Photos:

A section in our consent form covers photo consent used for social media and training purposes.  If you wish to not have your face on any of these platforms it is encouraged to not sign that section of the consent form.  The photo your artist takes before the procedure will always be taken and strictly used for reference and will not be used for social media and training purposes if this section of the consent form is not signed.

● The healing process is very similar to a body tattoo.  The eyebrow area will begin to oxidize and gradually become darker.  The darkest will be the following day.  If there is any redness, it will subside in about 3 days

● Eyebrows will begin to scab/flake with the healing time consisting of 7-10 days.  Healing time differentiates from person to person; some may heal in 4 days, while some in 2 weeks.  Try not to compare your healing process to others!

● DO NOT pick or peel when eyebrows begins to scab.  If the area has been picked or peeled, it will be significantly lighter than the rest of the eyebrow once all scabs are off.  Allow the scabs to fall off naturally, you are able to proceed with your regular routine once healing is complete.

● Always sleep on your back; generally, side and stomach sleepers tend to have the worst retention as the scabs are rubbed off in the sleep from the surrounding areas.  We recommend an airplane pillow to stabilize the neck and pillows behind your knees to straighten out your back for more comfortable sleep.

● NO working out as it produces sweat and may cause pre-mature lifting of the scabs.  This includes swimming, hot yoga, sauna.  If any of this is done, it will cause your scabs to peel prematurely, lose pigment, and in some cases, even cause infection.

● NO products on the eyebrow area.  This includes shampoo, cleansers, makeup etc.  Only water and ointment is allowed.  Products on top of any open wound will cause infection.

● No sun exposure.  Sun is the worst enemy of any tattoo.  Always use SPF after the eyebrow is completely peeled.

● FOR FIRST 3 DAYS wash eyebrow area by splashing water and gently rubbing to loosen any dried blood, collagen, and lymphatic fluid.  Rinse again, and pat dry with paper towel.  If you are living out of town and feel that tap water is not safe, please use bottled water.  After 3 days, you are more than welcome to continue splashing eyebrow area with water, however do not rub as it can irritate the scabs.  Washing allows oxygen back into the wound and allow faster healing time.

● FOR NEXT 7 DAYS apply balm that is provided at the time of the appointment once per day in the morning.   With oily-skin clients, apply balm for 5 DAYS.  This acts as a protective barrier.  ONLY ADD A PAPER-THIN LAYER and gently apply onto area in a TAPPING MOTION.

● Never expect your eyebrows to be perfect the very first time.  There can be times where scabs come off prematurely and poor retention is caused.  This is why there is always a free touch up appointment to fix any areas.

Depending on your body, skin type, and lifestyle, your permanent cosmetic area can last anywhere from 1 to 2 years.  Most ladies like to come back for a touch up after every year at a smaller cost.  If you are a very active individual and are exposed to the sun often, your brows may fade quicker.  You can maximize the length of your new brows by applying sunscreen to protecting them from fading.

I cannot find the dates I want on your booking system, are you able to accommodate? If you are an existing client we will always hold you as priority, therefore email us at info@merakibeautybar.ca .  If you are a new client, each artist opens their bookings on an average of 1 to 2 months in advance.  Please see their Instagram handles for updated open bookings.

I had my brows done in the past; do you think it will be ok for me to get my eyebrows redone? It all comes down to how dark and thin your brows are at the moment.  Depending on the method you would like (microblading, powder ombre, combination, or nano), it may or may not work.  Please always send a photo of your bare brows, preferably facing a window with natural lighting, to info@merakibeautybar.ca for approval before booking an appointment.

Are you fully licensed & insured?
Yes, we are fully licensed.  This includes my Permanent Cosmetics Technician license, Burnaby Health Inspection License, and the City of Burnaby Business license.  All licenses are passed.

I see older ladies with blue/green eyebrows, will my brows turn a different color after it fades?
In the past, pigments that were used on the facial area such as the eyebrows were from the same pigments that were used on the body.  Black ink was the main source of pigment and as black is not an actual color (it is made of many colors), your body will slowly absorb the different colors and can leave your brows with one shade (blue/green).  Sun exposure can also turn this black pigment into a blue/green color as you are unable to block your face at all times (unlike your leg or arms with clothes).  With the combination of black & body pigments, sun exposure, it may change the hue.

Here at Meraki Beauty Bar, all pigments used are organic inks and stay true to its’ color.  We use Permablend Pigments in which are high quality products and have been tested numerous of times.  Once the permanent cosmetic fades, it will fade to a lighter shade of the desired color.

Can you use brown pigments?  I don’t want to use any black pigments.
No black pigments are used. Different shades of brown are chosen to match your skin undertone and hair color. Black pigments are generally used for body tattoos.

What type of pigments are used?
Depending on the method you are choosing, the inks are made of a mix of organic and inorganic inks.

How long will the appointment take?  Will I need consultation?
Consultation is generally on the same day as the procedure. 1 hour of consultation and brow perfecting and 1 hour of the initial procedure. It will be a total of 2-2.5 hours for the entire appointment depending on your desired shape and thickness.

When can I book my touch up appointment?
Your one free touch up appointment should be booked immediately after your initial appointment.  The booking should be at the 6 to 8 week mark from the initial appointment. If you book before then, please be advised there may be a higher chance that your brows will still be healing and will still be very sensitive. As a result, it may be more painful. It is your job to book the touch up appointment as many people cancel, reschedule, and your artist may be fully booked. Your free touch up will only have a period of 3 months from the initial appointment.  If you surpass your 3-month time, your touch up cost will automatically be $100.  Additional touch ups will be at a certain cost depending on the time from the initial appointment.

How long will the healing take?
Healing time consists of 7-10 days but this solely depends on your body and its’ healing. There are some who heal in 4 days, but some in 3 weeks. Please try to schedule your events accordingly.

What is the healing process like?
Please see Healing &  Aftercare above

How long will my eyebrows last?
Depending on your body, skin type, and lifestyle, your permanent makeup can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years.  Oilier skin types generally fade quicker than drier skin types.  This also depends on the type of method chosen.  It is common for Microblading clients to come in the more frequently (1-1.5 years) while Powder Ombré clients come back infrequently (anywhere from 1-4 years).

Why does permanent makeup fade so quickly?
After the initial touch up there are many factors as to why your brows may not last long. This includes not following aftercare instructions, lots of sun exposure (not wearing sunscreen), your lifestyle (ie you spend most of your time outdoors), skin type (dry, flakey skin), being iron deficient/anemic, using chemical peels/exfoliants frequently on the area etc.

Are you able to touch up another artist’s work?
We are able to touch up another artist’s work however, it will be at full price as the original brow was not done by us at Meraki and may be even more difficult to correct.

Will I be able to do any physical activity?
It is NOT recommended to workout, sweat, go swimming, hot yoga, sauna, or anything that can cause your skin to become oily.  This is to be avoided until your eyebrows are fully peeled. If any of this is done, it can cause your scabs to peel earlier and can even lose pigment.  This is very important for Microblading in particular as the excessive oil can cause the strokes to heal blurry.

When can I book my touch up appointment?
Your one free touch up appointment should be booked immediately after your initial appointment.  The booking should be at the 6-week mark from the initial appointment. If you book before then, please be advised there may be a higher chance that your brows will still be healing and will still be very sensitive. As a result, it may be more painful. It is your responsibility to book the touch up appointment as many people cancel & reschedule. There is a 3 month time span for your free touch up from the initial appointment.  If you surpass your 3 month time span, your touch up cost will automatically be $100.  Additional touch ups will be at a certain cost depending on the time from the initial appointment.

What if I am travelling to come see you?
If you are from out of town, we allow a 6-month period for you to receive your free touch up.  Please email info@merakibeautybar.ca and note when your initial appointment date was and list dates that you will be in Vancouver, BC so that we can book you accordingly.Does it hurt?
