How long does it take?
The initial appointment is on average 4 hours, depending on the desired outcome. This includes time for forms, consultation, and questions in addition to the tattoo procedure itself. The tattooing procedure itself is around 2 to 2.5 hours.
Touch-up appointments are 1.5 to 2 hours long. The first touch up may be booked no earlier than 6 weeks after the first session.
Is it painful?
Numbing cream is used to maximize comfort during the procedure. I’ve had clients fall asleep and those who rated the pain 6/10. In general, I always prepare clients to expect some pain rather than none at all.
Can I take pain medication before the procedure?
Yes, but only if it’s Tylenol! DO NOT take any other pain medications such as Advil, Aleve, Motrin, etc.
What are some of the most important things I need to prepare before my appointment?
The 4 most important things:
Exfoliate and make sure lips are NOT DRY!
The lips cannot be worked on if they are dry and have any sort of flaking. The tattoo procedure will further dry the skin out. The needle will snag dry skin which causes sensitivity and bleeding. Bleeding will push pigment out and not allow it to settle. This will negatively impact healed results.
If a client has a history of cold sores, they need to take preventative anti-viral treatment before the procedure.
No drinking alcohol the day before and the day of appointment as this increases bleeding.
No drinking caffeine on the day of the appointment as this increases bleeding.
